For your information, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a secretive corporate front group funded by Big Business that works to pass corporate-friendly bills in state legislatures. It has grown so powerful that it now has nearly one-third of all state legislators under its umbrella. It also has big ties with the Koch Brothers. The legislation would make it clear that lawmakers and key staffers are bound by the insider trading laws that affect everyone. The House bill also adds a provision to bar lawmakers from participating in IPOs. The bill passed 417 to 2.
But the House bill cut a provision that was in the Senate version requiring people who collect and trade so-called political intelligence, which is information from government that can move markets and stock prices to register just like lobbyists if they want to talk with covered officials in Congress and the executive branch so that the public knows who they are and what they’re doing.
It also cut a provision that cracks down on officials guilty of taking actions on the job to benefit themselves. Republican sponsors of those provisions in the Senate, especially Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) were highly critical of the changes, with Grassley calling them “astonishing and extremely disappointing.” Read more… Insider Trading Bill Passed in Congress No Surprise That it Comes Watered Down

Today, however, those staunch Republican supporters aren’t so macho anymore, with the current cast of characters in the GOP race to the White House who can blame them. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of them switch sides even, at least those who are like me, raised GOP but never firmly beholden to it and the ideology and finally saw the light.
Today however, they are much more brazen into their attacks on those that aren’t rich and are not shy about their true feelings which to me is disgusting. We do have the current issue of the Citizens United ruling though, and that sort of changes the ballgame altogether though. For any politician to hope for some of that big money and compete, they must play the game, so even some Democrats are questionable at this point, very questionable at that.

Colorado & Minnesota Caucuses & Missouri Primary Final Results 2012 Santorum Takes the Lead in the Race to the Bottom
Colorado & Minnesota Caucuses & Minnesota Primary final results 2012 are in, and Rick Santorum takes the lead in the race to the bottom, as voters in the three states handed Mitt Romney his rear end respectively. It was a very bad night for Mitt Romney on Tuesday, no matter which way you look at it, dealing yet another harsh blow undermining his argument that he is the strongest Republican candidate for president. Maybe in his own mind, but apparently they are right and you can’t see beyond the nose on your face and ‘connect’ with the average American or voter Mitt.
It happened in Iowa on Jan. 3. It happened Jan. 22 in South Carolina. And on Tuesday night, Romney was again handed his ass by a large portion of the Republican electorate, this time in the Colorado & Minnesota Caucuses and the Missouri primary.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) won Missouri and Minnesota by large margins, capturing 55 percent of the vote in Missouri to Romney’s 25 percent, and winning Minnesota, which was a state Romney won in the 2008 primary with 45 percent of the vote. Romney came in third Tuesday this time with only 17 percent of the vote, finishing behind Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), who got 27 percent. Santorum won all 114 of Missouri’s counties. Congressional Earmarks Exposed 33 Lawmakers Directed Over $300 Million To Local Projects Near Their Properties Mapping the Crooks
A U.S. senator from Alabama directed more than $100 million in federal earmarks to renovate downtown Tuscaloosa near his own commercial office building. A congressman from Georgia secured $6.3 million in taxpayer funds to replenish the beach about 900 feet from his island vacation cottage. A representative from Michigan earmarked $486,000 to add a bike lane to a bridge within walking distance of her home.
Under the ethics rules Congress has written for itself, this is both legal and undisclosed. Read more… Congressional Earmarks Exposed 33 Lawmakers Directed Over 0 Million To Local Projects Near Their Properties
Although this type of trading is illegal for anyone, some had argued that the STOCK Act, which passed 96 to 3, was needed to close loopholes that let lawmakers and lobbyists profit from “political intelligence.”
“We are entrusted with a profound responsibility to the American people to look out for their best interest, not for our own financial interest,” said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), one of the lead sponsors on a measure that garnered rare bipartisan support, including from Republican senators such as Maine’s Susan Collins and Massachusetts’ Scott Brown.

On the other side, the crooks haven’t totally abandoned President Obama, who in 2008 raised more money from the financial industry than any other candidate in history, according to two watchdog groups. No other candidate has come close to the $12 million Romney’s campaign raised directly in 2011 from individuals who work at financial firms and banks, which also includes cash from insurance and real estate companies, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. In comparison, Obama’s campaign raised $5 million from people who worked on Wall Street last year, the Center for Responsive Politics reported.
“Romney has raised, far and away, more money,”said Michael Beckel, spokesman for the Center for Responsive Politics. “But the president is still collecting a big chunk of change from finance sector interests.”
In addition to Romney’s campaign, the executives opened their wallets to Restore Our Future, a super political action committee that supports Romney indirectly. This all in addition to what the Sunlight Foundation reported that current and former executives and family members of Bain Capital have contributed more than $2.7 million to Romney’s federal and state campaigns, federal and state leadership PACs, the Restore Our Future super PAC that supports Romney, and his gubernatorial inauguration fundraising committee. Some even go so far as to say that Romney is the candidate Citizens United created, the creature given life by Scalia, Roberts, Kennedy, Thomas, and Alito all playing Dr. Frankenstein. In the Florida primary results 2012, Romney won convincingly, with 46.4 percent to Gingrich’s 31.9 percent, with 100 percent of the vote counted. Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) trailed behind, with 13.4 and 7.0 percent, respectively.Mitt Romney snapped back from South Carolina with a Florida primary victory that took advantage of a more diverse electorate, re-established his image of electability and economic leadership, and demonstrated his organizational firepower in attracting – and retaining – early-deciding voters.
Far fewer Florida voters made up their minds in the campaign’s closing days than in any previous GOP contest this year – and Romney won his largest share of those who did. His final barrage of ads may both have helped limit the number of late-deciding voters, and to stem defections in this group. Republican Polls Latest Florida Republican Polls Show Romney Pulling Away From Pack - Not that this is saying very much, just look at the competition!
As the Florida Republican primary campaign winds to a conclusion, the only disagreement among the Republican polls is the size of Mitt Romney’s lead. A flurry of final polls released over the weekend shows the former Massachusetts governor leading former House Speaker Newt Gingrich by margins that approach or reach double digits.
The weekend brings at least three new Republican polls to the fold, using different methods and conducted over slightly different dates, that all show Romney with a big advantage and pulling away from the rest of the pack. 2012 Republican presidential candidates stand together before a debate at the Reagan Library - Sept. 7, 2011. Motley Crew indeed!
WASHINGTON — The pitch from the Republican presidential contenders to voters sounds a lot like the children’s game of follow the leader.
When Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich aren’t puffing up their own leadership credentials, they’re running down the leadership skills of one another and of President Barack Obama.
If anyone missed Monday’s conference call from the Romney campaign about Gingrich’s record as a “failed leader,” not to worry. They could have tuned in to Tuesday’s conference call. Or Wednesday’s. Or Thursday’s. Or checked out the “unreliable leader” banner splashed across a Romney news release that labeled Gingrich “unhinged.”
Romney’s political biography, meanwhile, is all about his leadership as a businessman, Massachusetts governor and savior of the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
It’s hard to miss Gingrich’s frequent broadsides at Romney for failing to provide consistent, visionary leadership. Or the former House speaker’s pronouncements that he, by contrast, offers “exactly the kind of bold, tough leader the American people want.” Or Gingrich’s descriptions of all that was accomplished in his four years as speaker in the 1990s.
